How to Shift From ‘Why is this happening to me?’ to ‘Why is this happening for me?’

Share Via:

Ever caught yourself asking, “Why is this happening to me?” We’ve all been there. What if I told you that one tiny word change could revolutionize your business (and your life)? Here’s the million-dollar mindset shift:

Stop asking “Why is this happening to me?”

AND

Start asking “Why is this happening FOR me?”

Sounds simple, right?

This shift is anything but small.

Let me explain:

  1. “To me” puts you in victim mode. “For me” puts you in growth mode.
  2. “To me” focuses on the problem. “For me” focuses on the opportunity.
  3. “To me” breeds resentment. “For me” breeds resilience.
  4. “To me” prioritizes circumstance. “For me” prioritizes purpose.

Here’s a real-world example:

When Steve Jobs was fired from Apple (the company he founded), he could have asked, “Why is this happening to me?”

Instead, he said, “Getting fired from Apple was the best thing that could have ever happened for me.”

Why?

Because it freed him to enter one of the most creative periods of his life.

He founded NeXT and Pixar, and eventually returned to make Apple the trillion-dollar company it is today.

That’s the power of “for me” thinking.

So, how can you make this shift?

Step 1: Start by acknowledging the hurt.

Don’t sweep it under the rug.

Understand why it affected you deeply and allow yourself to process those emotions.

We recommend using our Aligned Intelligence Method® for this.

Step 2: Look for the gifts and lessons in the experience.

What blind spots did this bring to light in your business that you didn’t see before?

What new skill sets are you implementing now to prevent this from happening again?

Step 3: Implement new processes and or people.

What new processes are you putting in place to prevent this from happening again?

What people are you putting in to allow the right people to be in the right position, doing the right things every day?

Step 4: Praise yourself.

Acknowledge the growth this experience has given you.

Recognize how it’s made you stronger.

Use this reflection to shift how you now see yourself.

Move from constantly questioning yourself to being excited about new opportunities for positive growth, expansion, and evolution.

It’s about framing them in a way that empowers rather than victimizes you.

Every successful entrepreneur has faced setbacks.

What sets them apart is how they perceived and responded to them.

So, the next time something goes “wrong” in your business, catch yourself.

Shift from “to me” to “for me.”

Here’s to turning your obstacles into opportunities,
